Covid in children under 19 is usually mild, rarely requires hospitalization, and almost never causes death[1][2][3].
It is unclear how much children transmit Covid. Some studies suggest children transmit as much as adults, while others suggest that children under 10 are less contagious than adults[4][5][6].
In-person schooling increases household Covid risk ~40%, with risk increasing with child age, but the risk disappears almost entirely if mitigation strategies such as mask wearing, cohorting, distancing, and screening are applied consistently[8].
In the US, the Pfizer vaccine is currently available for children 12 and up[6], and is expected to be approved for children over 2 in September[7].
